Job Description

Our client is a large-scale farm based in Laikipia. They are looking to hire a Production Manager responsible for the production of all Vegetables, Herbs and Fruits, observing GAP and Global Gap Standards while generating accurate five-week predictions for all vegetables within a margin of error of 15%.

Responsibilities

  • In charge of the implementation of agreed weekly planting programs for all Crops on the farm
  • Ensuring that the correct plant population is attained at planting
  • Maintaining high Field hygiene standards through timely weed control and general sanitation
  • Ensuring timely crop support, coiling, tucking and stringing for supported crops
  • Managing  irrigation and scheduling of irrigation based on different crop requirements and stages of production, including reduction of water wastage from leaks and over-irrigation,
  • Led the agronomy team to ensure that pest control is well managed and all pests and diseases are kept below threshold levels at all times
  • In charge of the vegetable’s nutrition through the implementation of the fertiliser plans, compost application and foliar feeds
  • To be the link between the pack house and fields teams in terms of timely product supply, quantity and quality issues
  • Ensuring staff discipline and motivation on the farm.
  • Participate in setting, reviewing and monitoring the department’s work targets
  • Ensure Optimization of labour numbers, ensure employees hit their targets for each day and earn bonuses for extra quality work done
  • Maintaining and updating all crops production records
  • Ensuring products produced are of good quality and meet the market specifications
  • Undertaking any other duties that may be assigned from time to time
  • Overseeing farm composting activities and Soil improvement plans

Qualification, Skills and Experience

  • At least BSc in Horticulture, Agriculture
  • Over ten years experience in the horticulture industry, preferably in Vegetable production.
  • FACTS and BASIS Qualifications
  • Practical experience in Pivot  and Drip Irrigation Systems highly desired
  • Practical experience in Global Gap Certification and  implementing the Global GAP standards in the farms
  • Good human relationships skills
  • Knowledge and practical experience in Farm composting
  • Knowledge and Practical experience in Land preparation for Vegetables, Herbs and Fruits production
  • Must have an eye for attention to detail, optimization of resources and waste reduction for efficient production management
